Artist, songwriter and producer Theophilus London has released brand new studio album, Bebey via his own label My Bebey Records. The album – which features Tame Impala, Lil Yachty, Ian Isiah, Raekwon, Giggs, Ariel Pink, Gemaine, and Kristian Hamilton – is a celebration of self-love and represents a return to Theophilus’ roots, inspired by his Caribbean heritage and the Brooklyn neighborhoods he grew up in, steeped in Dominican, Puerto Rican, Jamaican and his native Trinidadian traditions.
Theophilus released a string of singles ahead the album release, including the island-inspired title track “Bebey,” the remix “Bebey [SN1 Road Mix]” featuring Giggs has been the Tune of the Week and Hottest Record in the World on several BBC Radio 1 shows in the UK and has racked up more than 2 million Spotify streams. A cover of the 1984 track by Steve Monite “Only You,” has amassed more than 7 million Spotify streams and “Whiplash” which ricochets between a driving beat and an electronic-tinged melody speaks to Theophilus’ return – both feature Tame Impala. Other previously released tracks include “Pretty” featuring Ian Isiah, “Seals” and “Cuba” – stay tuned for the “Cuba” video coming soon.
Theophilus tapped a team of expert collaborators on Bebey, producing the album himself with the help of Executive Producer Carlo Fox (Independently Popular), alongside Teddy Fantum, Tame Impala, and more. Theophilus also enlisted Machinedrum’s Travis Stewart to mix the album with Watts as the artistic director and Virgil Abloh leading the creative direction to bring his vision to life.
Theophilus London‘s genre-defying, cosmopolitan left-field pop draws from a wide range of influences including soul-pop, calypso, new wave and contemporary R&B, and he has earned media praise from the likes of Billboard, GQ, FADER, Esquire, Paper, Complex, Noisey, Stereogum, Hypebeast, HighSnobiety, Paste, The Guardian, and more. Theophilus’ inimitable style has also gained him recognition throughout the fashion world, most recently showcased via his collaboration with Virgil Abloh and Off-White. Revealed by Theophilus on Instagram, the Off- WhiteTM c/o Theophilus London “LIFE’S WORK” Boots are inspired by Theophilus’ personal style and are marked with the Bebey illustration which was created by Theophilus himself on his iPad and also appears on the Bebey album cover art.
