Atlanta progressive post hardcore band, Satyr have released “Bird,” their second new song of 2020, taken from their upcoming debut full length album Locus, out February 21st. The new track follows their recently released single, “ Picayune” which can be heard HERE.
Of “Bird”, the band said, “Bird, like pretty much the rest of the album, is about introspection and battling your own demons and just trying to keep your head above water sometimes. Whether it’s big stuff or small stuff everyone has something negative they feel is taking over and we are just sharing a little of our perspective on that idea.
As far as the music though, this song is the most ‘songy song’ on the album. It’s got three choruses with a pretty straightforward verse pattern, which is why we chose it for the album. It’s the song you can follow along to the easiest I suppose. But we also mess around with a lot of 7/4 and some 11/8, some real chaotic shit. Overall it’s definitely one of our best.”
Satyr have made a name for themselves by blending technical proficiency, dense emotion, and complex song structures into one unique and impressive sound. It’s as if Dance Gavin Dance started over after listening to a ton of Meshuggah and TTNG. Their lyrical content is dense and meaningful, which combined with their technical proficiency creates a sound that can be enjoyed by any and all on the rock and metal spectrum.
