Kelsey Karrasch is happy to share her thoughts and feelings on astrology with you. She, along with her partner, Jameson Flood, use ALKE’s latest single “Gemini” to make clear that while the sign can be fun, thwarting boredom with their whimsical and engaging ways, letting the chemistry lead the way might still send mercury into retrograde. Listen to the track now below.
The song is about “falling for someone that you are, without a doubt, completely incompatible with,” Karrasch admits, hinting that the adaptability of the sign also makes them hard to figure someone out. “Sometimes it just ends in disaster. It’s easier to blame that on astrology than it is to blame yourself for having a type.”
Mirroring the euphoric dance-pop synths and 80’s and 90’s slanted vibes that rocketed their 2017 single “Indigo” to pop stardom, “Gemini” rides infectious hooks and Karrasch’s shimmering vocals, jumpstarting ALKE’s 2020 campaign. While the duo have only started to unleash their atmospheric brand of retro indie pop onto listeners, their musical parallels to iconic pop royalty, like Whitney Houston or Robyn allow fans to wonder if ALKE’s personal pop anthem will lean more towards “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” or “Dancing On My Own.”
