Donna Missal has shared the official video for her new single, “Hurt By You.” Donna directed the clip, which unfolds on the neon-lit Fremont strip in old Las Vegas. With a nod to classic 90s music videos, Missal captures a relationship at the crossroads and celebrates the lure of the open road. View the video now below.
“I made this video with friends. I wanted it to look like the song sounds, using the energy and color of the old Vegas strip,” says Donna Missal. “I love the process of taking something from the conception in your imagination to completing it in real life, outside of yourself and into the world. I love making worlds for songs to live inside of. I wanted ‘Hurt By You’ to have its own world.”
A candid, unconventional break-up song that sidesteps bitterness and celebrates the journey ahead, “Hurt By You,” is the first official single from Donna’s forthcoming album, which will be released by Harvest Records later this year. Andrew Wells (X Ambassadors, Bebe Rexha, Fitz and the Tantrums) produced the track. “Hurt By You,” which was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, has already racked up more than 311,000 cumulative global streams.
“Hurt By You” follows her fall 2019 single “You Burned Me,” which New York Magazine’s Vulture hailed as “her best song ever.” Substream Magazine called it “soulful and empowering.” A potent emerging musical force, the New Jersey native melds alternative rock, soul and roots music with ease and has amassed more than 32 million global career streams, including over 16 million U.S. streams.
Donna will return as special guest on the second leg of Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi’s sold-out European arena tour, which kicks off on March 2 in Manchester. The run will include two nights at London’s SSE Arena Wembley. In recent interviews with Billboard and The Line of Best Fit, Capaldi has had high praise for Donna, saying: “You can’t take your eyes off her when she performs because she’s overflowing with passion. She’s got a voice that’s like being punched in the face in the best possible way, it’s so powerful and it knocks you back. She’s one of the best voices around at the moment, 100 per cent.”
Prior to the tour’s launch, Donna will play a series of European dates with the German band AnnenMayKantereit. See below for itinerary or visit http://www.donnamissal.com/#seated-tour.
Listen for Donna’s cover of Cigarettes After Sex’s “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” in the forthcoming film Promising Young Woman, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It will be in theatres on April 17. The song is also featured in the film’s trailer, which can be seen HERE.
Upon the release of Donna’s 2019 debut album, This Time (Harvest Records), Earmilk said, “A sound like this cannot be missed…we’re in full orbit around this star.” Billboard praised the single “Keep Lying” – which Donna performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers – as “a raspy rock anthem about the struggles of finding yourself in an abusive relationship.” She supported the album with a sold-out, 20-date U.S. headline tour. Donna has also played numerous festivals – including Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo – and toured with such artists as King Princess, Bishop Briggs, K.Flay, Joywave, Sir Sly, and Barns Courtney.
