Maintaining the momentum of an impressive rise to pop prominence in 2020, tastemaker-touted alternative artist UPSAHL joins forces with Two Feet for a new version of her critically acclaimed single “Drugs” today via Arista Records.
Of the new release, USPAHL commented, “‘Drugs’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, and Two Feet is one of my favorite artists, so having him drop a verse just made good sense. It’s so hype that everybody gets to hear a new version of the song with him on it.”
Two Feet echoed her excitement as he agreed, “When I first heard this song, I fell in love with the wonky production and UPSAHL’s vocals; I knew I needed to be on it. I’m excited to bring her out on tour too.”
“Drugs” becomes even more intoxicating due to the chemistry sparked by these two dynamic talents. Between the hypnotic original hook and off-kilter beat, Two Feet serves up an ethereal and engaging verse as the groove volleys back to UPSAHL. The sardonic lyrics scorch as she immediately captivates with the admission, “I just came here to the party for the drugs.” A mesmerizing line in which UPSAHL explains “is me saying that I’m not here for the extra BS or the clout that people think is so important. I’m just here for the realness. It’s supposed to be a feel-good song that embraces genuine people and honest connections.”
A fan favorite, the original has been used in over 200,000 TikTok videos and appeared on numerous viral charts around the world as it continues to put up 3 million streams per week. Additionally, “Drugs” received praise from EARMILK and OnesToWatch who applauded it as, “a powerfully provocative piece of indie pop.”
The new release follows a momentous year for the “up-and-coming indie-pop queen”—according to Alternative Press. Recently, “Smile For The Camera” hit Top 40 on Alternative Radio as it attracted glowing critical acclaim and YouTube claimed UPSAHL their ‘Artist on the Rise’. NYLON proclaimed, “She’s on her rock star ish,” and American Songwriter labeled the track, “intelligently written.”
