Nineteen-year-old artist and songwriter annie omalley has released her new song, “You’re The Drug.” A stripped-down piano ballad, “You’re The Drug” allows the listener to feel the yearning and sorrow in Annie’s lyrics and vocals as she comes to terms with saying goodbye to a relationship. During the song’s progression, you can hear Annie evolving into a stronger version of herself. The song is the fourth track from her upcoming debut EP, Golden, out this spring.
“This song is about my first heartbreak and what it felt like wanting something so desperately that I needed to let go,” said Annie about the track.
Recently, Annie released “Golden Doves,” “Planet Golden,” and “Island” from her upcoming EP. The “Golden Doves” video invites the viewer to slow down, breathe in, and find tranquility while Annie showcases her mesmerizing voice. The “Planet Golden” video captures a behind the scenes look at Annie performing the song live, showcases her playful personality, and is a contrast to the song’s lyrical space theme, sparse piano, and swelling guitar chords. Meanwhile, the ethereal “Island” video follows Annie gliding around an island as she develops and gains the confidence to be herself, a journey mirroring her own as the young musician grows into her own creative space where she has found a voice all her own.
Annie first garnered attention last year with her independently released single “Chase Me Down,” which has organically collected over 200,000 Spotify streams and caught the attention of producer Johnny K (Plain White T’s), who produced her upcoming debut EP. Penning every single word from the heart and addressing emotion with a level of personal attention and care that is wise beyond her years, Annie has already forged an immediate bond with listeners as evidenced by her ability to rack up hundreds of thousands of streams independently among her fans or bringing a diverse crowd of 20,000 to its feet opening for the legendary Chicago.
