LA indie pop artist Youth Basketball – the moniker of songwriter Ian Kieffer – has released his new single & billiards lyric video “No Reason”. The track follows the successful release of 2019’s “Young Mother,” and is Youth Basketball’s 3rd single overall.
The accompanying lyric video features retro billiards footage, tying into on the central theme of the song. Youth Basketball has played into this concept with a variety of billiards-themed content. “‘No Reason’ is a song about how things just happen in life. How, to me, there’s no meaning,” Kieffer explains. “I liken life to when one ‘breaks’ in a game of pool. You hit the rack, the balls scatter, and whatever happens, happens. If you want to create your own meaning in the randomness, go ahead, but don’t pretend like you have the definitive answer.”
Youth Basketball is a local baller and working-class hero born and raised in Los Angeles, home of the Purple and Gold, home of the Showtime Lakers. Ian grew up on everything from 70’s singer/songwriter to 90’s hip-hop. He weaves grooving bops with catchy, thoughtful melodies that stick in your head and leave you wanting more. In the project’s short existence, Youth Basketball has sold out headlining shows at LA venues like Hotel Cafe and Resident, and has supported artists like Juice and Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers in both LA and New York. When he’s not on stage or in the studio, he can be found getting buckets on any basketball court in the greater LA area.
In support of the new single, Youth Basketball was scheduled to perform at LA’s storied Roxy Theatre. Due to the public health crisis, the show has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
