Seminal Oakland-based indie rock outfit, Rogue Wave, have returned from a two-year hiatus to delight fans with a new single, “Aesop Rock”. The track’s title is a playful response to the cult-classic rapper, Aesop Rock, naming his latest single “Rogue Wave” earlier this year. It’s anchored by pulsing guitar rhythms and percussion that provides a sense of urgency to the otherwise ethereal arrangements. These more driving elements are complemented nicely by airy synths and meticulously placed guitar leads. You can listen to “Aesop Rock” now on Spotify and most of your other favorite streaming platforms.
With the release of “Aesop Rock”, Rogue Wave is asking fans to donate to Tipping Point Community – a San Francisco-based non-profit that invests in the most promising interventions to break the cycle of poverty in the Bay Area. There is no donation too small. The band is grateful to each fan who takes the time to listen to the track; especially to those who find a way to make a small contribution despite the issues they are facing in their own lives. Tipping Point is currently in the process of raising $30 million to support its grantees in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. That $30 million will help stabilize the ecosystem of non-profit organizations and get resources directly into the hands of individuals who are no longer able to meet their basic needs in the wake of the pandemic. 100 percent of donations to Tipping Point go directly to its grantees working to support vulnerable communities. Quote from Zach Rogue About “Aesop Rock” and working with The Tipping Point Community:
“It’s hard not to feel powerless in times like these. For us, we talked about it and wanted to do something, anything to help. If you listen to our track, please consider donating to Tipping Point. They do amazing work in the Bay Area, directly helping families in need. No amount is too small! We were able to track “Aesop Rock” a couple of days before the shelter in place in California. Who knows, maybe Aesop Rock’ll bust a jam called “Out of the Descended Shadow of Lake Michigan” next?”
Since the band’s origins in 2002, Rogue Wave have continued to expand their emotional spectrum. Drawing inspiration from the inevitable delusions of everyday American life, Zach Rogue, Pat Spurgeon, and their bandmates have created a beloved discography founded on the art of patience, the fearlessness of experimenting, and the unbridled joy of creating something meaningful to help us navigate through these vacant times. Trusting in its own abilities and leaning on each other, Rogue Wave have continuously smashed any preconceptions of their music throughout the career, revealing a truthful, powerful and urgent sonic blueprint for the band.
