DREAMERS have teamed with grandson for a sweltering new version of “Heat Seeker.” The release comes with a brilliantly twisted companion video, a blend of sci-fi, mysticism, religion and rock, and inspired by the eye-popping animation of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” and 1981’s cult classic Heavy Metal. Watch it now below.
The provocative new take on the track builds on the truth-seeking power of the original while adding grandson’s signature style and the socially aware artist’s lyrical flair (I wanna be a pacifist but the peacekeeper died on the way to becoming a heatseeker).
This new collab follows the grandson ft. DREAMERS track, “Whole Lotta,” which is part of the XXwhy campaign designed to raise awareness for voter registration. (Stream HERE) “I think we are in an exciting time for alternative music, certainly the most exciting in my lifetime,” says grandson. “Artists are collaborating more and pushing one another creatively. I was psyched to hear DREAMERS pushing their sound in a darker heavier direction and was happy to add my little piece to their story.”
“I’ve always appreciated what grandson puts out into the world, his lyrics, his heavy truth-to-power rock and his messages to fans,” says DREAMERS lead-singer Nick Wold. “I was so glad when he wanted to be a part of this song. It’s a crazy world right now and a perfect time to send some philosophy out into the collective mind.”
The heady “Heat Seeker” ft. grandson video features animation by longtime DREAMERS collaborator Andrew William Ralph and follows lead singer Nick Wold and grandson as they search for truth and meaning while navigating a cosmic gauntlet filled with false idols, relentless consumerism and shady politicians.
“Andrew has been making animation for us since our first release and this is definitely his best one yet,” says Wold. “He and I are both inspired by surrealist art as well as some of rock’s great animations. We plan on taking the hand-drawn animation style to the moon as we continue this project.”
The animated video is the sequel to the brain-melting original, directed by Wold and shot in one take, which dealt with the search for meaning in the modern world as mirrored in the disorienting dream sequence that finds the band lost and searching for the truth.(Watch HERE)
“Heat Seeker” comes off the success of “Die Happy,” which was a top ten hit at Alternative Radio and is the fifth alternative radio hit from the LA-via-Brooklyn band. Expect more music from DREAMERS in the coming months.
