Today, South Coast Music Group released Toosii’s new single, “5 Stars.” On the track, which he recorded at his home studio in North Carolina with producers Prodbyeighty8, GVNGBOY10 and KookUp, Toosii powerfully contrasts five star dreams with the raw realities of everyday life.
Cruising Raleigh, NC with friends in a den on wheels, Toosii delivers a riveting performance of “5 Stars” in the official video, which Complex premiered earlier today. Produced and directed by Michael Burroughs and shot by Drew T, the clip shifts back and forth, from black & white to color. “We go up like GPA’s/This ain’t no GTA,” declares Toosii – but will he wind up wasted? 2020 stands to be a breakout year for the 19-year-old, North Carolina-based rapper. In February, South Coast Music Group released Platinum Heart, Toosii’s debut studio album, which includes the hits “Red Lights” and “Pain Killers.” HipHopDX said, “An entirely solo 13-track effort, the album was characterized by Toosii’s melodic flow and driven by his hit, ‘Red Lights.’”
Combined streams of tracks from Platinum Heart already exceed 50 million. My Shit Now, his first remix tape, is also doing substantial numbers. A compelling live performer, he has supported such artists as DaBaby, Summer Walker, Polo G, Moneybagg Yo, Money Man, NBA Young Boy, Yung Bleu, City Girls and more. XXL observed, “Toosii has the ability to make turn up music” and AllMusic praised his “melodic, autobiographical style.”
