Denver’s creative scene is flourishing — a secret that’s steadily revealing itself only to anyone that’s paying enough attention. Helping to pull the curtain back is Monalicious (Mona Magno) who — in 7 years — has created a record label, multiple bands of her own and now, an entire channel of programming for the Denver music scene called FreePeopleTV (FPTV).
You may not know it but behind the modesty of Monalicious is an ambitious rockstar who can’t be stopped — and she’s fueled by the team of believers that stand behind her. Growing quickly, her company FreeMusicForFreePeople, the masterminds behind FPTV, now consists of videographers, artists and journalists, including Aaron Loki Johnson previously of Colorado Public Radio (CPR). “We now have a team-inspired vision of how far we can go with this,” Magno said.
Season one of FPTV is set to be released on June 3. Each episode will highlight a variety of content that’s been produced over the past year whether it’s a mini-documentary, an artist session or a virtual live set. FPTV also features two podcast-style interview segments, including “Your Neighbor Speaking” which spotlights artists opening up socio-political issues. Hosted by Johnson, this segment is a rare, vulnerable conversation-piece which reveals the hidden views and passions of artists and how it intertwines with their art.
“We’re seeing a growth of all creative industries whether it’s new people coming in to make a name for themselves or the really strong community of people who have been grinding and contributing for years,” Monalicious said. Not only is Denver evolving with its modern creative renaissance, musicians and artists around the world are currently using isolation for inspiration in what’s projected to be a renaissance in-and-of-itself. During these times of isolation, FPTV crosses borders because it’s virtual. When people across the nation previously couldn’t attend a Denver concert or performance without significant travel and costs, they can now with this consistent source of video entertainment.
Episodes of FPTV’s first season go live on Twitch every Wednesday in June. After each episode airs you can find full videos of the featured content at FM4FP.com. The programming is free, however, Magno is accepting donations at FM4FP.com to support this project.
