Nashville-based band Nightly have released the official video for their quarantine-written single, “you should probably just hang up,” out everywhere now. The video, shot and directed by longtime creative collaborator Zach Pigg, premiered yesterday on Atwood Magazine.
“The idea for the video came from a nightmare Joey had of having to rehearse on the way to a show because we were running late,” vocalist Jonathan Capeci shared in a recent interview. “Since we can’t tour and play shows at the moment, it just felt right to get in the back of a van and jump around for a few hours.”
Inspired by a friend’s failed relationship, the track marks a new era for the band. “We wrote ‘you should probably just hang up’ about a toxic situation,” Capeci explains in a recent interview. “The song came to us super quickly, and we immediately recorded and produced it in Joey’s basement.”
Nightly, formed by cousins Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta, and drummer Nick Sainato, have released a steady stream of music since their 2016 debut honest EP, which featured the 10 million-plus streamed single “XO.” With a fresh start to 2020, the band recently released the cinematic track “the movies (ft Charli Adams)” under their new partnership with BMG Recordings.
