Having spent the past few months releasing never-before-heard studio session material, launching her own book club and making a cameo appearance in Apple TV’s first British scripted original, ‘Trying,’ prolific singer-songwriter, Maisie Peters has released her brand new track, “Sad Girl Summer” via Elektra Records.
Written alongside Steph Jones (Selena Gomez, P!nk) and production duo AftrHrs (Niall Horan, GRACEY), ‘Sad Girl Summer’ arrives as the perfect accompaniment for the months ahead with its lush production and Maisie’s distinctively dreamy vocal performance. Watch the official video now below.
“I wrote Sad Girl Summer at the beginning of summer 2019, which ironically went on to be one of the best summers of my life!” says Maisie. “The song is all about letting go of things and people that aren’t worth your precious time and energy, and celebrating the people in your life that are.”
With over a quarter of a billion global streams under her belt and a slew of coveted tips, Maisie is undeniably one of UK’s brightest new talents, often lauded as a modern-day storyteller. She concluded 2019 with the release of her second EP (‘It’s Your Bed Babe, It’s Your Funeral’), a sold-out show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and as the only British artist featured on the ‘Birds Of Prey’ movie OST; and although 2020 support slots with LAUV and Niall Horan are currently on hold, Maisie has continued to captivate audiences and celebrity fans alike with recent releases, including the hauntingly beautiful ‘Daydreams,’ which she crafted in Nashville with Ian Fitch and Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves), and ‘The List,’ her most vulnerable release to date, a co-write with Frances, with production courtesy of Rob Milton (Easy Life).
In May, inspired by her love of literature and storytelling, as evident on past releases such as ‘This Is On You’ and ‘Worst of You,’ Maisie launched her very own virtual book club. Already boasting almost 6 thousand followers, each month, a new theme and relevant materials are revealed and discussed @mpbookclub on Instagram. Barely 3 months in, Maisie has already played host to live Q+A’s with an array of the most exciting new names in the literary worlds, including novelist Naoise Dolan (‘Exciting Times’), artist and author Florence Given (‘Women Don’t Owe You Pretty’) and poet, Charly Cox.
Having participated in virtual festivals including Unity 2020, Dork’s Homeschool, YouTube’s Stream #WithMe and more, alongside the likes of Yungblud, Arlo Parks, Tom Grennan and Joy Crookes, Maisie also took to her socials for a series of acoustic ‘Bed Covers,’ performing stunning renditions of her and her fans favorite songs; with one in particular catching the attention of global superstar, Taylor Swift, who praised her ‘heavenly’ version of ‘Enchanted’ to her 86 million Twitter followers.
With new material, a successfully launched book club and even more A-list fans, 2020 is already shaping up to be Maisie’s biggest year yet.
