Marking his fourth release of the year on Monstercat, the French producer Duumu returns with his carefree new single, “Never Had” featuring singer-songwriter Meggie York. The upbeat slice of future bass meets earworm pop-electronic shines a light on Meggie’s powerful vocals front and center. Duumu has been on an upward trajectory since 2017, earning fans in everyone from San Holo to DROELOE and collabs with the likes of MYRNE and Sundial (on their Rocket League track, “Keep You”). Building on the diverse soundscapes coming out of Paris and London, Duumu has incorporated cinematic influences into his music from his love of visual art & film.

Duumu shares, “Meggie and I met at the start of this year when she reached out to me to work on a track together. After a lot of back and forth, she sent me the vocal demo for “Never Had” and I got to work immediately. This track has a style that I’ve been experimenting with for some time now, mostly in my remixes, but I felt I should try something with an original track. This was a pleasure to work on with Meggie and I hope you’ll all enjoy listening to it!”

Meggie York added, “I wrote this song in a time when I was actually struggling in a romantic relationship mentally. I felt as though we didn’t have the same connection that we used to have and I wrote this song wishing that the aspects in the song could have been applied in my own personal life. The lyrics more so encompass what I dreamed I could have had, rather than what I actually had. I hope other people can feel the lyrics like I have, and know that they only deserve to be with someone who makes them feel incredibly special.”
