Tastemaker-approved, alt-pop maverick WENS has returned with a new track and video “love blind” today via R&R/Warner Records. Produced by Jeff Kleinman (Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs and Anderson Paak), the track pairs soft beats with emotional vocal delivery as she confesses, “I wish we could rewind, back when we were love blind.” Listen to “love blind” here and watch the video below.
WENS explains, “falling in love for the first time is completely terrifying, its all consuming and the most beautiful thing until it isn’t. i wanted my relationship to work so badly that i slowly chipped away at myself til i lost who i was without that person. and i so desperately wished that we could go back to the beginning before we had experienced any kind of friction. i was trying so hard to bring us back to life but my harsh reality was that it’s nearly impossible to repair something that is past the point of being fixed.”
WENS writes a different sort of fairy tale for pop. Raised in Southern California of Iranian and Italian-American descent, she turns an outsider perspective into provocative, poetic, and powerful anthems. Kicking off her career in high school, the singer and songwriter independently amassed over 6 million total streams and toured alongside indie darlings, NOW NOW. Signed under a joint venture between R&R and Warner Records, earlier this year, WENS uncovered her debut Lemoncholy EP. Billboard praised the project’s “incisive sharply-rendered pop narratives,” and Alternative Press observed she “brings a fun and poppy light to relatable issues that will make listeners feel seen and heard.” While Brooklyn Vegan claimed, “I do not have enough words to describe how much I love WENS’ writing and vocals. The production is interesting and also simple, it’s perfect.” Last month, WENS released two tracks “sad sad” and “giant bat” dedicated to long-distanced lovers, accompanied by animated visuals. More to come next year with WENS.
