Heading into the holidays, breakout star YDE has unveiled the official music video for her sophomore single, “BlindLife.” Harkening back to the classic music videos of the 1980s, YDE goes on a nonsensical adventure through a quirky, surrealist dreamscape, turning a BLIND eye to the chaos and turbulence of the world around her. Directed by Lucas Chemotti with creative direction from Darian Darling, the video is intentionally unrealistic and non-linear, featuring a playful blend of digital vs. analog video and mixed media collage techniques. Watch the video now below.
Released earlier this month, “BlindLife” was co-written with YDE’s frequent collaborators, esteemed songwriter Justin Tranter and Grammy-award winning duo Mattman & Robin, and is inspired by the chaos and turmoil of 2020. Self-described by YDE as her “end of the world anthem,” the song instantly caught the attention of both Refinery29 and Billboard, who called it “Timely, and a total groove.”
Earlier this fall, YDE also released her striking debut single “Stopped Buying Diamonds,” a bold and sarcastic apology on behalf of Gen Z, which instantly cemented her as the new generation’s modern rockstar. The track received acclaim from the likes of Teen Vogue and PAPER, who stated, “ YDE is a voice for her generation.” 2020 marks only the beginning for YDE, with much more to come in the new year.
