The emerging producer from Los Angeles named Ekonovah wrangles together a solid crew of fellow IN / ROTATION residents to come together for the official “Medicine” remix package.
It’s been a minute since the bubbling house music enigma known as Ekonovah popped up on IN / ROTATION with his first dose of home-brewed grooves arriving in the form of “Medicine.” The potent and highly effective number set a precedent for the up-and-coming act from Arizona, which ultimately led to a healthy regimen of releases that allowed his unique style to shine. It also featured the first appearance of another would-be label regular, with SoCal sensation NOISES administering a sticky vocal delivery showcasing his ability to work his magic on the mic (when he’s not too busy being glued to his own DAW, of course).
Sitting at the halfway point is a take from the ever-evolving mind of L.A.’s own Jace Mek, who brings the beat down to a simmer via mild-mannered distortion washing over splashes of white noise, electro-leaning licks, faint remnants of the OG melodies, and echoing vocal loops. FreeFall picks the pace back up with his rework, adding in warm piano stabs atop a bouncy late-night rhythm that teethers on bass house. Closing out the affair is an appearance from Arizona-based duo ANIMATE, coming through with a final dose arriving in the form of fast-paced percussive programming, chunky bottom-end, running basslines, and a locomotive motion of whistles to drive the remixes home.
“My take on ‘Medicine” is a portrait as the perfect way to start 2021; a cure from last year’s insanity,” says PEACE MAKER!. “It’s a pleasure to release such a special remix with my IN / ROTATION home.”
“‘Medicine’ is a bright, melodic house track,” says Jace Mek. “It needed to meet the dark side.”
Across all five reworks plotted throughout the package, a few of the imprint’s residents come through to tweak the chemical composition of the original. Kage, PEACE MAKER!, Jace Mek, FreeFall and ANIMATE are running up to produce pharmaceutical grade takes that you won’t be able to pick up over the counter.
