Daniel Briskin has released the two-track single “Lost” / “Break.” Together, the songs trace the arc of a relationship – from the hazy euphoria and sense of promise of the early days captured on “Lost” to the feelings of loss and hopelessness, as love wanes, which are examined on “Break.” Download / stream both songs HERE.
“‘Lost’ through to ‘Break’ is the narrative of a relationship from the honeymoon phase all the way to the end,” Daniel Briskin explains. “In my personal experience – love is completely intoxicating, but with the highs of infatuation also come the lows.”
The new songs will appear on Briskin’s forthcoming mixtape, Forever Was A Feeling, which he recorded with Jamie Reynolds, a founding member of the Mercury Prize-winning band KLAXONS and JONAH. An extraordinary and immersive body of work, the album-length mixtape captures the claustrophobia and euphoria of late adolescence, mixing nostalgia with an overwhelming relief that the whole thing’s nearly over, all seen through the eyes of a realist who can’t help being a bit of a dreamer. The result is dark pop, with a glimmer of light never too far away.
The North London producer/singer/songwriter made his EMI/PR debut last year with “Boy on the Lake,” which Clash Magazine hailed as “a miniature masterpiece.” In December, Briskin gave an intimate performance of “Boy on the Lake,” accompanied by violin and keyboards, at Phonica Records in London. Machine Operated (Bakarr, SG Lewis, Off-White) captured the performance in this video.
“Yellow,” the follow-up single, received support from BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2. The Line of Best Fit said, “A dose of existentialism is married with frenetic beats to create a chunk of alt-pop perfection on…‘Yellow.’” Idolator praised the “dreamy, disarming” video that accompanied “Yellow” and hailed Briskin as “one of 2020’s breakout stars.”
The 19-year-old North London artist recently launched “Reminiscent Radio,” a mini-radio station he put together to showcase his musical inspirations and unheard demos. Listen to the first episode HERE.
