20-year-old singer/songwriter, Aidan Alexander, begins a new chapter in his career with the release of his latest single, “the end of the world”, and it’s out today independently via AWAL. His first release in nearly two years, Aidan delivers an emotionally driven performance, skillfully touching on themes of existential dread and relationships in a cinematic, celebratory manner. Initially composed as a piano ballad, Aidan tapped Jaqueline Miskanic pka “Jax” (Gwen Stefani, Big Freedia, Au/Ra and Jason Hahs (“Mad At Disney”) to help co-write and produce the single.
“the end of the world” combines Aidan’s signature genre-bending, earnest tones with meaningful lyrics that fans can easily relate to, given the current state of the world. He simply admits, “But humans need humans / I’m seeking a friend for the end of the world / When everything’s burning / I just wanna hold a hand.” The track is designed to feel cinematic in nature, incorporating orchestral strings, a bold kick drum, and an infectiously dark-sounding late-Sixties-style fuzz guitar riff. He notes inspiration from Tarantino films, Italian/German composer Ramin Djawadi, and The XX.
“The song is about learning to let people in, which I fucking hate,” stated Aidan. “It’s about how human connection is all we have. Writing it, I was trying to create this ballad-esque pop song that still had movement and didn’t drag its feet. I didn’t want it to be melancholy or sad, but more of a celebration of letting your loneliness die”
