LEVEL UP and JEANIE are pulling bass-heads straight down into a fiery pit with their new collab, “Hell Hole,” slated for release on Bassrush Records.
Heat is something both of these hotly tipped artists have enough to go around, as the two long-time homies have been blazing through the dubstep scene with their own respective projects. Last year, they ignited an unholy four-way cut called “Inferno,” which saw them fanning the flames alongside MADGRRL and SIPPY, as the lead cut for the ‘GRL GANG Presents: RIOT! Compilation.’ Now, LEVEL UP and JEANIE are locking horns once again on the collab tip, and the result is a ground-rupturing dubstep single made from the darkness beyond.
“Hell Hole” sets off with a sinister melody line, which gradually rises to the surface like molten lava bubbling moments prior to a violent eruption. Once the slow-churning drums start to intensify, the floor crumbles underneath to take listeners straight into the belly of the beast. From that point on, waves of viscous womps proceed to drag you deeper into the abyss, while blaring bass and perfectly timed backspins keep the temperature climbing well past the melting point. The ominous melody loops back around for a brief moment of respite, only to spit you back out into the lowest depths of the diabolical drop these two mavens have forged from pure hellfire.
“LEVEL UP and I have been friends for a long time, so I’m stoked we finally worked on a track together,” says JEANIE. “it reminds me of what a horror game would sound like right before you descend into hell. Huge shout out to Bassrush for believing in the track!”
Based out of Brooklyn, JEANIE is coming off her debut appearance on Bassrush Records by way of the brain-bashing joint with southgate., “Dome,” which arrived on the latest installment of the ‘Prophecy’ compilation series. In 2020, she had an impressive output of releases, including her “Doomsday” and Rage Fatigue” joints spread across the first two ‘Subsidia Night’ compilations, as well as her own ‘Sinner’ EP on Drama Club. On the performance end, JEANIE crashed the livestream space with previous sets locked for Couch Lands Vol 3, Deadbeats House Party and the Dim Mak: Stay In Your Damn House Party. She’s also the founder of the aforementioned GRL GANG collective, creating a platform to prop up women in electronic music by arming them with inspiration and support from their fellow female producers.
As her counterpart on this release, Sonya Broner has been enchanting heads with her spellbinding craft under the guise of LEVEL UP. She delivered a flurry of grimace-inducing releases last year, which took her to lauded labels from the likes of Cyclops Recordings with “Satan Works Alone,” Buygore via “No Luck,” and her three-track EP ‘Scared of the Dark’ for GRVDNCR. She cut her teeth on the frontlines of the battle DJ circuit with years of competitive scratching under her belt—and has harnessed that dexterity behind the decks during her runs as support on Subtronics’ sold-out Cyclops Invasion Tour (Hollywood Palladium, Aragon Bassroom and Echostage), and most recently for Insomniac’s Park ‘N Rave show with Subtronics that streamed live on Insomniac TV.
