Fast rising UK artist Sam Tompkins has shared his first release of the year in the form of “Hero” – an emotional message to his father about finding hope in the darkest moments.

“Hero” is the third track to be taken from his revelatory forthcoming EP, who do you pray to? due for release March 18th, 2022. Continuing to reveal his unique voice as a writer, “Hero” has a melodic sound countered by honest brave lyrical content. Touching on home truths, grief and mental health struggles, “Hero” promises that there’s always something worth fighting for.

On the personal track Sam explains: “Hero is a really personal song. It’s a tribute to the courage my dad showed when he persevered through one of the hardest periods of his life.”

Sam Tompkins is a force to be reckoned with, following critically acclaimed singles: “Whole” and “Bloodline,” a string of viral videos, impressive covers shared via TikTok and grass-roots touring; he has garnered over 69 million global streams and amassed a colossal online audience which has grown exponentially over the past year.

Undeniably one to watch, the release of his upcoming body of work is set to cement Sam’s status as one of the year’s most exciting new artists. His music has already been praised by the likes of Vogue UK, MTV, Clash, BBC, and Notion magazine, played across BBC Radio 1 by Scott Mills, Clara Amfo, Ricky, Melvin and Charlie, and featured on flagship Spotify editorial playlists.

Elton John and Bastille are fans, pop phenomenon Bebe Rexha has co-signed his work, Ty Dolla Sign asked him to join him in studio, while Justin Bieber is a prominent supporter. The two hosted a sensational IG Live together and more recently hung out in LA, while a video of Justin singing Sam’s single ‘Whole’ has gained more than one million views –and counting. Overseas in the UK, JayKae jumped onstage on Sam’s last tour, and renowned UK tag-team Krept & Konan are fans.

Matching pop touches to a classic feel, he’s often compared to Sam Fender’s anthemic truth-seeking or Tom Walker’s revelatory autobiography. Yet Sam’s work stands alone and is already scaling mountainous heights. His music digs deep, explores the key topics in his life and communicates emotions we all feel, but sometimes can’t put into words.

Such a broad spread of support simply represents his audience as a whole as there’s a literal army of followers moving alongside him on socials. Between Sam’s music, live performances (including some incredible cover songs), Sam has amassed almost a half million followers on both Instagram and TikTok –including 5.1 million likes on TikTok. Selling out every venue he puts his name against, Sam’s live prowess stretches across Europe. After incredible performances across his sold-out UK/EU tour last autumn Sam is plotting a mammoth European tour in Spring 2022, containing a packed out Kentish Town Forum date on the April 7th.

From his humble beginnings busking on the streets of Brighton, EP ‘who do you pray to?’ is set to continue Sam’s momentum and his rise on the international pop stage.
