Creature Canyon Resurface With New Single, “Pressure”

Alt-rock band Creature Canyon has resurfaced from the pandemic with a new single “Pressure,” available now via Gnu Roam/Kartel Music Group. Inspired by a breakup that ultimately left the band’s lead singer Austin Steele homeless just days before the pandemic struck, “Pressure” seeks to offer a light at the end of the tunnel for anyone struggling to break free of interpersonal difficulties.

The track is accompanied by a music video, which serves as the directorial debut for the band’s young artist/multi-instrumentalist friend Elise Trouw, whose collaborative musical works include the likes of Travis Barker.

“Our song ‘Pressure’ is about recognizing destructive patterns in your life and the struggle it takes to break free of them, with fear and doubt clouding your judgment,” Creature Canyon shares on the new single. “Our hope is to empower and inspire the listener to realize they have the strength to overcome whatever difficult situation they may be facing, while also inspiring them to hit the dance floor.”

On directing the music video Elise Trouw states, “‘Pressure’ is the first music video I’ve ever directed outside of my own work as an artist. Working with Creature Canyon was both exciting and inspiring. I spent a few days with the band at my studio in San Diego shooting the different scenes, then we spent a lot of time going back and forth on the edits remotely, specifically the green screen shots. In the end, it felt like a true collaboration. I’m so glad the band brought me in for this project and trusted me throughout the process to represent their music visually.”

Formed in San Diego, CA, Creature Canyon encapsulates the fiery energy of indie/alternative rock with waves of modern psychedelia. The band consists of members Austin Steele (vocals, guitar), Ryan Amyot (guitar), Kyle Victoria (drums), Aaron Lund (bass), and Luc Fralic (keyboards, percussion). Known for their thrilling and captivating live performances, Creature Canyon has received nods from Billboard, Paste, and many other industry tastemakers. Building upon their prior EPs ‘Life I Know’ and ‘Did You Want That’, the band has made a considerable leap forward in their songwriting journey, seeking to tackle themes that deal with the emotional conflicts of love and loss through a journey of self-discovery. To capture their vision for this new era of music for the band, Creature Canyon enlisted the virtuosity of producer Christian Lum (Private Island), recording engineer Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young the Giant), mixing engineer Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastering engineer Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys).

This month Creature Canyon will hit the road for a run of shows on the west coast with special guests Hate Drugs and Public Theatre. You can see the band on the following dates:
