Boundary-breaking producer and piano house queen LP Giobbi is offering up her compelling take on Chris Lorenzo’s “California Dreamin’” featuring High Jinx, creating striking looped vocals and adding dramatic keyboards atop galloping beats and deep bass tones. Listen to her remix, which was released today by Black Book Records/Astralwerks, now below.
LP Giobbi says, “It was fun to work on a track with vocals that evoke summertime nostalgia and then juxtapose that with harder hitting production.”
With her distinctive blend of live piano loops, high-energy beats and achingly beautiful melodies, producer, DJ, pianist, entrepreneur and activist Giobbi has become one of electronic music’s fastest-rising stars. Named a 2021 “Artist to Watch” by Spotify, she has racked up nearly 30 million cumulative streams from her singles (including “Meet Again” ft. Little Boots, “Move Your Body” ft. Hermixalot and “Close Your Eyes” ft. HANA) and remixes for SOFI TUKKER, Dom Dolla, Hayden James, Kito and many others. She is the co-owner of Animal Talk – a record label, artist collective, and joint-venture publishing company (with Third Side Music) – established alongside SOFI TUKKER.
Giobbi is also the co-founder and face of FEMME HOUSE – a non-profit educational platform that seeks to create equitable opportunities for women and other marginalized gender expressions in the technical areas of music creation. She will kick off the FEMME HOUSE tour – a uniquely immersive experience that includes free in-person beginner level Ableton production workshops during the day and an epic club party highlighting an all-female / non-binary lineup at night – on February 25. Further details are available HERE.
Both Lorenzo and Giobbi will be performing at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN on June 17. Lorenzo will also play a DJ set at Beyond Wonderland in San Bernardino, CA on March 25.
Combined global streams of Lorenzo’s “California Dreamin’” ft. High Jinx have now surpassed 22 million, with upwards of 15 million on Spotify alone. After the October 2021 release of his reimagined version of The Mamas & The Papas’ classic 1965 hit, the track took the #1 spot on Spotify’s Operator, Housewerk and UK House Music playlists, entered Spotify’s Viral charts in over 10 countries (including the U.S. and U.K.) and appeared on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally.
Dancing Astronaut said, “House heads rejoice, as one of the most highly sought-after IDs of the summer finally receives an official release.” This Song Is Sick observed, “Without tarnishing the original vocals one bit, [Lorenzo] was able to breathe new life into ‘California Dreamin’ with the power of house music.”
Lorenzo is widely acknowledged for pioneering Birmingham’s emergent and increasingly popular Jackin’ house come Bassline hybrid sound, which he simply calls “House & Bass.” He has toured Europe with Skrillex, collaborated with The Streets, and Sonny Fodera and remixed Disclosure, Ed Sheeran and A-Trak. Lorenzo’s recent releases include “Fly With Us,” a collaboration with AC Slater, and “Sensational,” the latest single from Anti Up, the duo he founded with UK producer/Black Book Records founder Chris Lake.
