Atlanta rapper, singer, and actress Baby Tate has unveiled two new singles, the reflective “What’s Love” and the carnal “Sl*t Him Out.” Arriving just after Valentine’s Day, the bundle couldn’t be any more complementary with its varied sounds and contrasting content. Listen to “What’s Love” and “Sl*t Him Out” below.
At its core, “What’s Love” is a song about the heartbreak that comes along with a toxic situationship: “What’s love? I thought I knew before, but I’m not sure anymore.” Over a lush R&B landscape, Baby Tate deconstructs the actions of her partner—coming to the conclusion that the experience was the furthest thing from real. Longtime hip-hop/R&B fans will also recognize a subtle hat-tip to Fat Joe, Ashanti, and Ja Rule’s 2002 single, “What’s Luv?” Stay tuned for the cinematic video coming soon.
Meanwhile, “Sl*t Him Out” exists on the opposite end of the dating spectrum. Lyrically subversive and sonically unapologetic, the trap-tinged offering finds Baby Tate exploring her sensuality.
The Atlanta-born Baby Tate has “manifested herself to success,” as Rolling Stone put it, since the 2019 release of her debut full-length GIRLS. She followed that acclaimed project up with an appearance on Dreamville’s Grammy-nominated compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III and a cameo in Ashnikko’s provocative hit “Stupid.” In December 2020, Baby Tate released After the Rain, an EP featuring cameos from fellow Atlantan 6LACK (on “Let It Rain”) and Alabama rapper Flo Milli (on “I Am”). The latter became an online smash. Most recently, Baby Tate’s single “Dungarees” was featured on Halle Berry’s Bruised soundtrack and she has a guest feature with 21 Savage on JID’s hit single “Surround Sound.”
This spring Baby Tate will join Charli XCX for “Crash” The Live Tour, kicking off March 26 in Oakland, CA. Fans will get to experience pre-show pop-ups and activations in select markets. For more information and tickets visit HERE.
