LA-based producer morimori has released his new single, “Run To You“. Listen to the song now below and keep an eye out for the cinematic music video, shot and directed by rising filmmaker Eugene H. Lee, out on March 9th.
Of the song, morimori said, “This is the longest I’ve ever held onto a track before releasing it. I think I started it shortly after the release of ‘Washed in Grey’ and it all flowed out relatively quickly. I didn’t really know how I could follow up that track. I didn’t really have any plan or vision but I definitely felt the pressure to create something just as great. So I tried random experiments. Anything I would normally do on a track, instead I tried the opposite. Instead of making a buildup-drop format, I just let the song kind of grow on itself.
I was definitely afraid of releasing this. Afraid that it didn’t follow the formula to catch people’s attention and their search for the next viral hit. But I think I matured a bit over the last year as an artist and realized that my fears were unwarranted, and that this was truly the type of music I had always wanted to make.”
“I’m fortunate enough to have an extremely talented filmmaker friend, who, upon hearing the track, said it just HAD to have a music video. He could see it already. Though the video does have a concept, one that explores feelings of longing and isolation in an era of parasocial relationships, I think it’s abstract enough where people can create their own interpretations of it. Hearing people’s interpretations has been super fun. The most common theme has been‘ coping with the loss of a friend’ which is a theme I also love.”
