Rated R is breaking off his first standalone single on Bassrush Records with “Funeral”. In the immediate aftermath of his Bassrush label debut, “Shots”—a high-caliber collab with Cyclops that saw them going ballistic on the most recent installment of the ‘Prophecy’ compilation—he Orlando-based producer is wasting no time to give us a taste of the wrath he can unleash on the solo tip.
His follow-up release “Funeral” is straight-up ruthless. Symbolizing the final resting place for the self-sabotaging imposter syndrome, his new single is a figurative burial to those poisonous sneaking suspicions. An ominous ceremonial intro creeps into the frame, which gradually gives way to quick-fire melodies that crash into the voice of reason; a stern vocal urging the listener to “Quit acting like a fool // Get your ass up!” Like the flip of a switch, the tone undergoes a transformation through shrilling synths, rage-fueled adlibs, guttural low-end, and machine-like whirs working together to bid farewell to those invasive thoughts.
Rated R breaks down the meaning behind his new release: “This song is based on doubt and disbelief. Any doubt I’ve ever had, whether from myself or others, I’ve dumped and sealed into this mental coffin. Today is their funeral.”
Doubts are the last thing Frankie Sicoli should be dealing with, as his Rated R project is pacing to become a blockbuster force within the dubstep arena. He’s already received stellar reviews from his peers, drawing support from a gang of top dogs including Excision, Snails, Riot Ten, SAYMYNAME, Sullivan King and more. Bassrush is also getting a front-row seat on that action, as well, recently bringing his rock-infused, high adrenaline sets to EDC Orlando, Elevated Orlando, and a highly memorably sunset performance at Countdown’s Orlando Invasion to kick off the year. Expect to see more explicit warnings flash in your face as Rated R makes moves towards world domination.
