Nashville-based rock ‘n’ roller Bones Owens has released his new single “Mama,” combining his modern, wild west roughness, with gritty guitar hooks and a strong, sultry voice.
Owens expands on the track, “I wrote ‘Mama’ kinda early on in the lockdown and was thinking about life and death and it reminded me of some of the particularly sketchy times in my past where things could’ve gone another way and I wouldn’t be around anymore. I think the haunting nature of the song comes from mentally being back in this place of deep anxiety and uncertainty about survival. I think to most people, a mother is the universal symbol for protection and peace and it just felt right for the song to be like a one-way conversation with someone who once held all the answers. Now you’re out fending for yourself and the future, including your own grasp on reality and sanity, is unclear.”
Bones Owens is on tour now through the spring behind his new single and self-titled, debut album – tickets are available HERE. Bones Owens is a full-tilt expression of Owens’ wildest impulses, all swinging rhythms, and swaggering riffs. The Missouri-bred musician’s debut is a potent showcase for his formidable guitar work; a talent he’s displayed in performing with artists as eclectic as Yelawolf and Mikky Ekko.
