Bay Area indie pop songwriter Nari has released her new single, “7UP“. The new track gives fans a sneak peak of what’s to come from her upcoming debut LP Greener on the Other Side, out later this year on Park The Van. The song offers a candid glimpse into her tumultuous relationship with alcohol.
“If you listen closely, this song is full of contradictions,” Nari explains. “The song follows me through ups and downs of getting a hold of my relationship with alcohol. When I was struggling with my relationship with alcohol I found myself lying and trying to find loopholes in my attempted sobriety at the time. I was constantly in a battle of needing people around me while pushing them away whenever they checked me for my behavior and relapse and trying to salvage those relationships through bargaining and making excuses.”
Narisa Khamvanthong (Nari) was born and raised in the Bay Area of California, and always enjoyed the music scene there but never thought she’d be getting into music herself. As she started getting more familiar with the bands and artists in her community, she finally decided to pick up the guitar and write her own songs.
More recently, while away at school in Lexington, Kentucky, she started writing songs and uploading them to Soundcloud. The reactions from her friends, musical peers, and complete strangers was extremely positive and lead to a collaboration with Nashville’s Okey Dokey and some discovery from fans around the country.
