Denver indie/pop/alternative band, Neon the Bishop have released their new single, “The Get Down” today. The catchy as hell, upbeat song is driven by a strong bass line and stunning vocal work from singer and keyboardist Kendall James. Written alongside Aaron Rothe(formerly of 888, Drop Dead, Gorgeous), and Taylor Macres(Redlands) last fall, the track finds the band celebrating uniqueness and stepping out of their comfort zone more than ever before.
“‘The Get Down’ leans a bit more poppy than where the band usually goes,” explained Kendall James. “I wanted a song where we didn’t take ourselves too seriously and could have fun with it as well as could dance to. A big part of music for me is, ‘Can you move to it?’ I think we were missing some of that element in our music.”
James went on to explain that the lyrics are based on situations he has been in, “In the past, I’ve been told to blend in and go with what everybody else is doing. So this single is more of a retort to that. It’s a, ‘No, let’s take a chance and do something different. Let’s be ourselves and own that.’”
