Child of the Parish have released their first new single of 2022, titled “Quiet Life“. The new track previews their eagerly anticipated second EP of the same name, which will be released on April 22nd. Listen to the song now below and pre-save the EP HERE.
“Quiet Life” finds the sonic alchemists creating something idiosyncratic from their wide-ranging reference points. Punchy hip-hop beats and bass provide the foundation for the duo to experiment with everything from luscious, dreamy vocal harmonies that feel like a voice from another dimension, swathes of dystopian synths, and a talkbox effect rarely heard since the ‘70s. The track features co-production from Paul White (Danny Brown, Charli XCX) and mixing courtesy of Nathan Boddy(James Blake, Celeste, Mura Masa, London Grammar).
Of the song, Child of the Parish commented, “‘Quiet Life’ is about how often life is anything but. Having escaped to the countryside myself in pursuit of this, and not particularly calmed down in any perceivable way, the song is semi-autobiographical. But it takes the idea on a bit of a wonky trip to bat-country, tipping a fisherman’s hat to the ether-soaked world of Hunter S. Thompson, one of my heroes in literature.
There are elements of hip hop in the production (we thought there was still room to squeeze a couple more genres into the album!), so we were delighted to have Paul White on co-production as we’re huge fans of his work on Danny Brown’s amazing ‘Atrocity Exhibition’.”
