BOYU has shared his his third single of 2022, “NYC Ate Your Soul”. The pop/rap track showcases Boyu’s signature hazy alt-pop sound and tells the story of an aspirational young woman navigating through the frenetic NYC buzz, only to be tangled in the shadows of inhibition.
“Before taking the recording artist route seriously, I was all in on the corporate banking path, thinking if I worked really hard and climbed the corporate ladder, I would be wealthy at an early age, then I could do the things I love, such as music.” says Boyu. “I attended The Ohio State University on a full ride studying Finance & Economics and immediately started working in Corporate Banking at Banco Santander, a Spanish multinational financial institution upon graduation. It turned out to be an extremely dry & soul-sucking job that demanded 60-80+ hours a week, leaving me very little time to focus on hobbies, much less create music. A year in, I realized that I shouldn’t have to wait to follow my dreams as time is precious (exemplified by COVID), and even though the banking career path pleased my parents, music was my true calling. Thus, the burning urge to follow your dreams & reinvent yourself is what inspired ‘NYC Ate Your Soul’.”
