Rising alt-pop duo Bahari—aka Natalia Panzarella and Ruby Carr—have unveiled a new single, “Hot Mess” featuring artist and producer Yoshi Flower. The song arrives alongside the official music video for the single, which can be seen now below.
The track hinges on a sultry bass line punctuated by finger-snaps, setting the tone. Natalia and Ruby trade hypnotic verses with Yoshi before harmonizing on a catchy chorus, “You really got me fucked up since we fell in love, now I must confess that I’m a hot mess.” In the visual, this trio descends upon an ornate old mansion. Yoshi raps to the mirror and lies in a bathtub overtaken by plant life as the girls dance in the hallways and sip wine at a dining room table adorned by a heart-shaped “Hot Mess” cake.
Regarding the song, Bahari said, “We’ve been friends with Yoshi for years and writing with him feels really natural. Our styles are similar and experimental, so we were eager to get back into the studio together. ‘Hot Mess’ was created on one of the days where we were just sharing about our own chaotic lives. A lot of the song was different freestyles and it all fell into place quickly. There was definitely an element of synchronicity.”
Yoshi added, “The girls and I are like cousins at this point, we’ve been creating together for years, so we sort of get each other with less words. We wrote the tune together so fast, and it was one of those days where we just related to each other’s glamorous chaotic messy beautiful existences and the song fell into our laps.”
