LA trio Gabriels have shared their new single, “One and Only,” today via Elektra Records. The new song, which tells the age-old tale of love and loss, is the band’s first new music of the year. Listen to it now below.
Gabriels commented on the single, “‘One and Only’ is about relationships that are built on a trauma bond. As much as you can love someone and want to help each other, ultimately change and peace come from inside and the only one who can save you is yourself.
“The cover art is by our close friend Chuco Moreno, an artist from California we’ve been working with on a film for the past six years.”
Across the next few weeks Gabriels will headline two sold-out London shows at Lafayette on May 5th and KOKO on June 21st, and will be playing a slew of festivals this summer across the UK and Europe including Glastonbury, The Montreux Jazz Festival and All Points East. All tour dates are below.
The “One And Only” artwork (seen in the video above) is designed by the world-renowned US Chicano tattoo artist Chuco Moreno.
“As a Chicano artist from the barrios of California I have worked my way to the frontlines of professional tattooing and to the arena of art on the world stage. My art is a generational gift that has been passed down throughout the lineage of my people. Collectively, those that come before me, have expressed our struggle, strength and love for our culture and each other through collage art, a medium that expresses thoughts and ideas through the use of images relative to the emotion desired to be conveyed. I was with the band Gabriels, pushing art and an open mind as a brother, and they as an artist pushing to be heard from the beginning. In this small group of friends, from all spectrums of life, and different sides of the world, I found a brotherhood and a family. The art that was being made was true, pure and from the heart, something that I’m drawn to at my core. When the band recently asked for my contribution and for my art to be attached to their newest single ’One and Only,’ I liked the idea immediately. You see the friendship and bond between us as artists is deeper than just the business of making business. We are all a spoke in the wheel of a movement. Something special and truly different.
“My art on its own would not normally be seen as in line with a band such as Gabriels, but in fact it is, the idea and common thread between the two is acceptance and love which is the birthplace of all true art. The contrast of my art and the origins of it brings something unique but still distinctly in line with the message of what the music is trying to say.
“The art I’ve rendered itself is in the form of a heart. The imagery includes notes of pain, loyalty through struggle, and the chains that bind us in the emotion of love. No matter who or how you choose to love in this life, I believe that the costs are all the same and that we all, in the choosing of love, offer up on that altar ourselves. Thank you to my brothers from Gabriels for this opportunity to contribute and be heard.” – Chuco Moreno
