Indie/alt singer-songwriter Samica has shared the music video for “Happier Than Me” today. The video follows Samica as she deals with her ex moving on without her.
Of the video and single, she explained, “Sometimes when things get hard, you feel like the only option you have is to run. It’s not always the best idea, but this song is for when you’re on your way.”
A first-generation Indian-American, Samica grew up in Northern California surrounded by traditional Indian music at home and is heavily influenced by Top 40 and Urban radio of the 90s and early 2000s era. Inspired by the latter, she began playing guitar and writing music at a young age. When she realized none of the artists that were influencing her shared the same cultural background and ethnicity, Samica became determined to change that. Her searing voice just happens to be the perfect vessel through which relatable, genuine lyrics travel to the heart of her fans. Samica’s sound is the bridge to the gap between cultures. She believes representation matters for people like her in the music industry.
