Number One Popstar has shared her infectious new single, “Dance Away The Pain.” Equal parts antics, pop culture commentary, and just plain catchy, “Dance Away The Pain” is accompanied by a comedic music video, which depicts Number One Popstar mastermind Kate Hollowell in a neck brace attempting to rally her real life friends she meant at a Zumba class to dance away their pain. Watch the bizarre and hilarious video now below.
“I feel like pop music, especially pop music videos, are filled with young cool people, but I want to make music that brings joy to everyone, at any age, specifically 70+,” Hollowell says of the clip. “My hope is that this song is a celebration of not just dancing, but acknowledging the pain you’re going through.”
“Dance Away The Pain” comes after Hollowell’s performances at SXSW, where she also made her directorial debut for “I Hate Running” at the Film Festival (alongside other artists such as Dua Lipa) as well as a sold out tour opening for indie pop musician Caroline Rose. Hollowell’s live shows have received rave reviews, characterizing them as “better than Cirque du Soleil” and “unlike anything I’ve ever seen.” From showing up in an ambulance at a sold out show at a winery attached to an oxygen tank, to asking audience members to throw trash at her on stage, Hollowell is being called the Andy Kaufman of pop music.
