BROKENHEARTSCLUB have released their aptly titled, genre-bending debut single, “Party Started” today. Comprised of ONUR and Harvey Whyte, BROKENHEARTSCLUB was founded in the midst of the pandemic, with the first single capturing the excitement that people felt when they began gathering together once more. Listen to the track now below.
“I was coming across a trend in most social interactions: even though people were happy on the surface as they were socialising and gathering with friends again, a general feeling everyone shared post pandemic was being pissed off, sad or bitter, while needing to relive and catch up on lost time. This song represents that. Our bitterness at losing so much time, but also rejoicing with each other again. When it comes to creating the beat, I was out in Istanbul at the time and I was super inspired by all the sounds and vibes of the city,” explains ONUR who produced the track, adding that the Turkish clarinet break is a sample of a street performer that he recorded with his iPhone.
BROKENHEARTSCLUB shines through its very unique DNA, drawing heavily from previous boy band eras and rap group eras such as D12, Backstreet Boys or BROCKHAMPTON but also Michael Jackson to create their very own brand of pop. Nicknamed the “rap Cobain”, Harvey White’s raw punch and frankness have previously put him firmly at the top of the collaborators’ list, from Footsie, KeepVibesNear, Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn, to Greentea Peng and soon Fatima. Acclaimed by his peers Martin Garrix, Labrinth, kwassa and EDIS, ONUR intrigues just as much, infusing British pop with Turkish beats and carefully curated samples. His debut EP A Millennial Rhapsody cumulated 1 million streams across platforms, garnering the attention of multiple record labels in the UK. While they both intend on carrying on with their respective private affairs, the BROKENHEARTSCLUB already has a solid events calendar for 2022 with more singles and a headline show on the horizon.
