Canadian producer Tails is back with a fresh new sound on his latest single, “on hold”, out today. The new single finds him putting the trap world he started his career in on hold to introduce a new sonic palette, shifting further into the indie dance sphere.
Of the song, he explained, “This release is a huge step in the right direction for me. It takes elements of the classic tails ‘sound’ and puts them in a new context. I’ve experimented with this style for years behind the scenes but have never had the courage to release something like ‘on hold’.”
“’on hold’ was started and finished in 2 very different head spaces. When I started the track, it was much more somber and ballad-like – more along the lines of a Kasbo or Odesza track – hence the vocal part and chord progression that make the intro feel more melancholic. When I revisited the original demo a few months later, I was feeling much more content and carefree in life – which lead to the builds and drops feeling much more light-hearted and energetic!”
You can catch Tails testing his new sound live this summer while supporting Kidswaste on tour across the US. In the meantime, put “on hold” on repeat, and be on the lookout for more fresh Tails tunes coming your way soon!
