Maddy Davis has released her angsty, authentic indie pop/rock anthem, “Sally! I Met A Boy” today. The self-written/ co-produced offering tells the relatable tale of wanting your closest supporters to not be doubtful of your latest fantasy romance, even though all of your past lovers ended in the same fate.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the single, Davis explains, “When I wrote “Sally! I Met A Boy”, I was notorious for falling too quickly and falling for the wrong people, but I really wanted [my older sister Sally] to be able to trust me this time. I was always calling her from LA, saying ‘No it’s for real this time’ then I would get ghosted or the person was a complete sh*t, so of course she was going to be skeptical.”
The veracity of Maddy Davis is proudly stapled into this latest release; in fact, exploring and emulating imperfection was the baseline of this story. Soaring through the skies with her angst-ridden power pop ballad intonations, the rawness of Davis’ lyrics are what make them universally relatable. Listeners will hear intentional distortion, timing delays, and other imperfections that you wouldn’t necessarily hear in a traditional pop song. These stylistic experiments remain in the final cut for a reason, Davis says. “I really wanted emphasis on imperfection in this song, because that’s what this song is about. It’s about being imperfect and never actually knowing what’s best for yourself, and having to admit that to someone close to you.”
“Sally! I Met A Boy” follows her latest single “Middle Kid,” (watch the official video here) the first taste of the promising young artist’s next chapter as she invites listeners into her world and continues to share nothing but her genuine self. Both singles are from Davis’ debut EP MUD, an ambitious effort proving her ability to turn vulnerabilities into lyrical illustrations, putting her on the map as an artist to watch in 2022.
