flipturn have released their long-awaited debut album, Shadowglow today via Dualtone Records. A masterclass on the balance between darkness and light, the chemistry of the band is undeniable both recorded and live, and lead singer Dillon Basse boasts a vibrato that holds the fiercest form of tenderness within modern indie rock. Listen to the album now below.
On the band’s debut, lead guitarist Tristan Duncan said, “Shadowglow captures that moment of time between the yearning of youth and the sobering weight of adulthood.”
Each of the 14 tracks on this record move in an elliptical orbit around the central idea that progress and backsliding exist side by side. Endless searching doesn’t necessarily get you to where you intended, but there is something to be found in every stage of the process. A listen to the album from front to back is like the inescapable pulling force of a blackhole, you know where you entered but can’t quite determine when and if you’ll ever get out. This is mirrored by how the album loops back into itself, perpetually sucking the listener further into the blackhole. Some blackholes form from the death of a star, but Shadowglow is a rebirth for flipturn.
In celebration of the album, the band is currently on their Shadowglow tour. Tickets for all shows are on-sale now and all tour information can be found HERE. Next week, the band will be putting on their own curated festival, Playground Music Festival, in Gainesville, FL – one of the cities that was deeply important to their formative years as a band.
