FRED – the new project from Freddie Criales and Tristan Torres (of Magnolia Park) – has released their debut single, “U Want Me Dead” via Epitaph Records today. Carried by a bouncy rhythm and vibrant synths, which contrast perfectly with the despondent vocals and bittersweet, honest lyrics, the track can be heard now below.
The catchy hook explodes with angsty power chords inspired by pop-punk and alt-rock acts as Freddie confronts his anxiety-ridden introversion as a person with whom he is having a conversation. Equating his anxiety to the daily battles of enduring a toxic relationship, Criales categorizes the song as “the ultimate anthem for anybody struggling in a relationship.”
Inspired by a new wave of artists in the alt and anti-pop scenes, FRED is a multimedia endeavor created with simple goals in mind – to make music for people who feel like they’re outsiders and to create great art.
