South Carolina-based singer-songwriter and multi-faceted artist Contour has returned with his new single, “At All“. The track is taken from his upcoming album, Onwards!, out October 7th via Errol and Alex Rita’s Touching Bass, and finds the artist contemplating his truth and aspirations while attempting to carve away the superficial and finding himself in the process. Listen to it now below.
Contour shares of the song, “‘At All’ is a rumination on self definition. It poses the question of what steps must be taken to create a definition of self we’re happy with. Sometimes that just means looking at ourselves but sometimes it means having to kind of carve away until we can actually see something. It also asks if the self is the individual or if it’s a more fluid thing where we flow into each other.”
To celebrate, Contour will host release shows in both London (October 9, Below Stone Nest) and New York (October 29, Union Pool) and will also support Nick Hakim at his sold-out London show at Avalon Cafe on October 27th.
Contour has steadily carved his own lane while making a name for himself via his artistry, music, messaging, and collaborations. Drawing inspiration from the great poets, writers, theorists, and filmmakers involved in the Black arts movement, including the films of the L.A. Rebellion of the 80s, Contour’s sublime expression and talent resonates with his listeners as he expertly blends samples with deconstructed elements of Jazz, contemporary soul, hip hop, and psych rock.
