LA-based producer, Venessa Michaels is gearing up to release her debut full-length album, Sent From Saturn, promising to exhilarate listeners with a lavish mix of house, pop, tech-house, breakbeat, and more. The album has been a long time coming, as Michaels has nurtured her retro-futuristic style for years, collaborating with artists such as J.Worra, Lil Texas, and Kaleena Zanders. Now, she is sharing the first taste of the album with the lead single, “Spirit On Mine“, another soulful collaboration with genre-bending singer/songwriter Luck. Listen to it now below.
“Spirit On Mine” is Venessa Michaels’ first release in over a year, and continues the fruitful creative partnership between her and Luck, following collaborations such as “Moment Forever,” as well as multiple tracks together on Luck’s It Wasn’t Luck EP. The track kicks off with ethereal synth pads and a groovy bassline before introducing Luck’s delicate, atmospheric vocals, incorporating lush harmonies and infectious snaps, transporting listeners back to the world of early 2000s R&B.
Of the song, Venessa Michaels explained, “Spirit On Mine brings you into another world. My favorite part about this song is you don’t know where it’s going, and when it hits, it feels like a whimsical release. It makes you feel free.”
Luck added, “When Venessa Michaels and I make music, it’s always honest. This song is a sonic expression of the purest form of love. A reassurance that even in the complexities of our darkest moments, you can look to those that you trust to fill your cup with love. And that’s a well that never runs dry. There’s definitely a beautiful spirit behind this record, and I believe that it’s a spirit of peace.”
“Spirit On Mine” releases alongside a spellbinding music video directed by JREAMS that acts as an acute expression of the song. With minimalist visuals emphasizing the artists’ closeness and bond, the video resembles abstract art as they post as one through different bodies.
