Brooklyn based singer, songwriter and producer Harrison Lipton has released his emotionally vulnerable new single “Sagittarius” today. Exploring fatal attraction and a distressing end to a meaningful connection, Lipton tells the vivid story of both sorrow and ecstasy, while the meticulous, self-produced concoction of psychedelia, soul, RnB and indie rock perfectly support his unique vocal dexterity. Listen to the track now below.
On the inspiration behind the song, Lipton explains, “The Sagittarius in this picture is actually behind the camera, and I’m facing away from them, looking out the window towards something new. The chorus of “I love your fire” is a nod to Sagittarius being a fire sign. This track is about knowing full well how bad someone is for you, and that push-pull of being drawn to them like a moth to a flame. It’s a toxic dynamic––you end up burning in the heat but at the same time, it’s what you crave.”
“Sagittarius” serves as the sequel to Lipton’s summer single “Speedracer,” which saw the rising artist tell a prophetic story chronicling the end of a relationship while exploring themes of love and loss. In “Sagittarius,” listeners see Lipton emerge from the depths of despair as he tries to figure out which direction his broken heart will lead him. There’s something masochistic about it––almost as if he is staring the inferno in the face and wanting more.
“Sagittarius” is a testament to Lipton’s ability to break down genre-confining walls as he continues to blaze through this new, eclectic sonic era, solidifying himself as an artist to watch in 2023 and beyond.
