27-year-old multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and producer OddKidOut has released his bitbird debut with new single, “SLEEP”, featuring Dutch singer-songwriter Isabèl Usher. The new track highlights a side of OddKidOut that he normally doesn’t showcase, taking elements of the high-energy sound that fans have come to know and love OddKidOut for and putting them in a more optimistic, uplifting context. It’s a contrast to his usual darker themes, aggressive energies and intricate tones. Listen to it now below.
The song was inspired by a topline he received from Isabèl Usher as OddKidOut explains, “I got the topline without ever talking to Isabel or ever meeting her. It hit my email a few hours before a flight I was taking from Philly to LA. I had some hours to kill, and so I cracked open the acapella and actually made almost the whole song on the flight…. I can make music anywhere! funnily enough I don’t think I’ve ever signed a track to a label that I’ve made in an actual studio. It’s just in my headphones wherever I am, whether it be a house or a store or a plane or train. I really just need my computer and headphones that’s it.”
“SLEEP” quickly continues to layer electronic elements and builds up to a catchy, energetic drop that’s bound to be on a loop in your head. Beaming with OddKidOut’s signature melancholic bass sounds and finger-drummed, bass-infused soundscapes, “SLEEP” is a bright addition to his already remarkable and diverse discography.
“My process revolves around creating, destroying, resampling, and re-shaping. I’m never married to anything until it makes my face scrunch up and then I know I have an idea I really like,” adds OddKidOut
OddKidOut recently tested the waters playing “SLEEP” during his show at EDC Orlando, and will be performing at We Are Friends, Cancun soon to put on another high-energy show to celebrate the release.
