Rising Detroit rapper Skilla Baby has released his new EP, We Eat The Most today via Geffen Records. Further cementing his place as one of the most enthralling young stars in hip-hop, the EP can be heard now below.
Long known as a colorful writer and adaptive vocalist, Skilla uses the seven songs of We Eat the Most to cement his credentials as one of the more observant artists working today. Whether decoding body language and social media posts like ancient hieroglyphics (“Duck Your Taco”) or recounting the hardship he’s overcome (the hit single “Tay B Style”), Skilla approaches his subjects from unique angles and with uncommon insight.
These talents come to a head on the punishing “Man Down,” which sees its accompanying video released today. Watch HERE. Throughout the razor-sharp track, Skilla seems to take pride in observers’ inability to see him with the sort of X-ray vision he turns on them. “They really think I’m just a rapper,” he says at one point, reveling in just how elusive he can be.
A protege of hometown hero Sada Baby, Skilla is carving out a lane as one of the Motor City’s most distinct voices. Though just 23 years old, the MC has amassed an impressive body of work, beginning with Push That Shit Out Skilla, his careening debut album from 2019. In fact, We Eat the Most is Skilla’s third tape of 2022, following Detroit Raised Me and Crack Music 2, giving him what is possibly the most unassailable resume in hip-hop this year.
