Classically trained pop artist, John Hanifin has released his new single, “Stop, Drop & Roll”, the first taste of his upcoming album, Clean House, out April 21st, 2023. The moody track finds Hanifin merging vibrant electronic pop with a timeless, soulful vocal performance. Sonically, the track is full of creative songwriting, complete with a guitar hook that Hanifin has been hanging onto for years, vocoder, cello and a retro synth, affectionately nicknamed the “Gameboy Synth”. Of the song, Hanifin said, “Sound is easy to create, but my goal is to always find the space – that moment of silence & emptiness that does more than anything I could ever create.”
The music video for “Stop, Drop & Roll” follows a familiar plot. You’re in a relationship, things aren’t going well, you’re unsure what to do, and its toxic nature has become your normal.The video’s setting – 60’s era London – sees John Hanifin looking back at himself and watching the chaos from a distance.
The filming of “Stop, Drop & Roll” took place throughout the city of London, UK. Filmed at the MOTH Club & private residences in St. John’s Wood, John, the crew of Canto Studio and all involved had a blast during the 60’s comeback to London just streets away from where the Beatles recorded. Starring in the music video are actress Orla Forrest & actor Charlie MacRae-Tod.
