Multi-talented artist and LGBTQ representative Lucii has released her new single, “Narcissist” via Create Music today. The powerful, personal track finds Lucii drawing on her own experience with toxic relationships and egotistical partners in lines like, “I guess that’s why they call it gaslighting, got me questioning my own reality, I see what you’re doing, got me thinking I deserve this.” Listen to the song now below.
Lucii opened up about the track, saying, “I wrote this song after a therapy session I had with my therapist Andrea – who I quote in the song. She told me the person I was describing to her sounded like a narcissist, and I never had heard that word used to describe someone before. I wanted to listen to a song about it and I found some amazing ones – just none that sounded angry. Every song was very sad so I decided to make one that was a little angstier. In my eyes, narcissists are very much manipulators, but at the same time they can really make you fall in love with them!”
Initially bursting onto the electronic music scene as a producer, Lucii turned heads with her natural style and high-profile collaborations with industry heavyweights like Adventure Club, Riot Ten, Dion Timmer, Champagne Drip and more. “Narcissist” features tinges of her roots in electronic music, yet a clear step into the pop-genre is felt and heard via the combination of her singing and songwriting. In just under three minutes, Lucii embraces a more downtempo sound and hopes to establish herself within the pop genre in addition to elevating her reputation as more than just a dubstep producer. Following the release of “Narcissist,” Lucii has expressed plans to incorporate a live band into her tour and festival performances, on top of live vocals that fans have come to expect.
With a discography only dating back to 2018, Lucii’s catalog can not only be described as dance music, but music the listeners can connect with as a result of her floating vocals, carefully crafted lyrics and production prowess. Her first EP, Wicked, released on Liquid Stranger’s WAKAAN in October 2020 – and she was the first female artist to have released with the label.
As a bedroom producer who writes her tracks and creates her beats in the home, they often come from a place of genuine vulnerability. She believes there should be more lesbian and queer pop stars in the market, and aims to uplift and inspire those attempting to break into the scene with her presence.
“I’m very into making this world a better place – and I will use my voice to do that. Women’s rights and LGBTQ rights are constantly under attack and I’m very vocal about ways to help.” -Lucii
