Colorado-raised, LA-based artist Kayla Rae has released her sultry, new single “Blue” today. The track, which was produced by legendary Grammy-winning duo Stargate, arrives alongside a Daniel Choi-directed video, which serves as a nod to the 90’s and 00’s R&B girl groups that Kayla grew up listening to. The nostalgic video can be seen now below.
Throughout “Blue”, Kayla channels the universal feelings of watching the person you love be happy with someone else. In the unapologetically vulnerable and enrapturing track, the songstress captures the high and low moments familiar to all break-ups, ultimately finding empowerment in overcoming it all.
Kayla Rae was born into a family of five siblings and raised by her single mother in Colorado Springs. Growing up, Kayla’s mother encouraged her to pursue music and was inspired by the sounds of Boyz II Men, SWV, The Carpenters, Whitney Houston , and MC Lyte that filled her house. Kayla made her first major mark on the industry with her 2020 project Pressure which led her to open for Doja Cat, Tyga, and Ashanti just before the world went into lockdown. After making the move from Colorado to Los Angeles, Kayla was selected to join the LAAMP (Los Angeles Academy for Artists and Music Production) program where she worked with Stargate, Ant Clemons, Jozzy, Ne-Yo, and many more. With her striking vocals and infectious energy, Kayla’s cementing her place as the artist to watch.
