Paris-based producer NxxxxxS (pronounced “N-Five X-S”) has enlisted London rapper Jeshi for his new single “Grub”. The new track follows the Phonk-infused offering “HEAD! SHOT!”, that he released at the close of last year. “Grub” features a melancholic drill beat with hard-hitting lyrics depicting the current struggles of London’s youth. Listen to it now below.
Speaking on the making of “Grub” NxxxxxS shares, “I met Jeshi in Paris around a year ago after he just performed here and we took the time to do a studio session. It was super easy and quick to work with him. I really love making piano beats and mixing them with hard drums and bass, because it always adds a special feeling. I think here it mixes perfectly with Jeshi’s lyrics and gives the vibe of a kinda nostalgic/cold life that young people in London feel. He adds that “What Jeshi did was really different and so it was a great feeling to hear something that fits directly, it’s always a good feeling to hear an artist take your beat to the next level.”
Arriving alongside the single is an 80’s arcade inspired visualizer by Julien Marmar (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Supreme) that brings to life the nostalgic feel of the track. “Grub” solidifies NxxxxxS’ shapeshifting ability and pushes his boundless music into new territory.
The name NxxxxxS sounds like it could be an equation, or a mystery. In order to unravel the identity of the French producer, you first have to look for clues on YouTube and Soundcloud, where so many underground artists have found a place to hone their craft. In the years preceding this single, NxxxxxS built up a solid reputation for himself in the international vaporwave, vaportrap & phonk scenes. This is no small feat considering he had no real knowledge of production or composition before deciding to take on these classic genres of “Internet music”.
The Paris native first gained exposure when he started making beats on YouTube, taking his inspiration from American rappers of the blog era – when artists, especially in hip hop, used digital technology to break away from traditional distribution models – like Mac Miller or Odd Future. Building on this initial success, NxxxxxS turned to Soundcloud, an essential platform for music enthusiasts, tastemakers, or anyone on the lookout for the sounds of tomorrow. Check out “Grub” and stay tuned for more music and info coming soon.
