Genre-blurring pop star Ashnikko has returned with their first single since 2021, “You Make Me Sick!” today. Arriving alongside a music video, the track features nu-metal-inspired distortion and a menacing beat written with longtime collaborators Slinger and Oscar Scheller [Charli XCX, PinkPantheress, Rina Sawayama]. It cuts an ex-boyfriend down to size as Ashnikko’s voice breaks into a roar, making lyrics like “you fucking loser!” sound like a death sentence.
“I’ve decided to come back with my angriest, most cathartic song to date,” Ashnikko explains. “My own personal rage room for me to smash my plates.”
Ashnikko already has big plans for the year ahead as she readies for her highly anticipated Coachella debut later this spring, with additional live dates confirmed across Asia, Australia/New Zealand, and more. “You Make Me Sick” follows Ashnikko’s hugely successful 2021 mixtape DEMIDEVIL and 2019 EP Hi, It’s Me, which set her straight on the path to superstardom. She’s since earned widespread global acclaim from the likes of VOGUE, NPR, The New York Times, NME, Pitchfork, The FADER, and many more – thanks in part to Platinum-certified singles “Daisy” and “Stupid” (feat. Baby Tate), as well as Gold-certified hit “Slumber Party” (feat. Princess Nokia). Over the past year, she’s performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel Live! and brought her wild world to life on her completely sold-out U.S. headline tour, as well as Lollapalooza, Governor’s Ball, Reading and Leeds, Bonnaroo, and more.
